On March 14th, CBS teachers and students welcomed parents and other community members outside the school to join in on our Open Day activities. Each department held open classes, which allowed the parents to feel and experience the students' learning atmosphere. The teachers also used this opportunity to communicate with the parents by introducing more knowledge about the school's curriculum and students' careers.
Foundation
In Foundation we held an Open Day for parents and also showcased learners' projects, for Mission Day. The initial objective of the open day is to give parents and local community members a firsthand experience on the actual learning process at CBS and to bring about a sense of ownership to their learning. The parent community took full advantage of the event, gaining knowledge and awareness of the happenings of the school.
PYP
The PYP had open classrooms for English, UOI, Drama and Music for parents to see. The parents got to see how the teachers use the IB Curriculum in creating a 21st century classroom, where we are helping our learners to develop into global citizens. After the open classes the parents engaged in workshops to learn more about our school and the IB Curriculum. The parents thoroughly enjoyed experiencing some of the activities that their children experience in the classroom. The morning ended with an exhibition of the learners' works. There was a Grade 1 and 2 Art exhibition and the Grade 3, 4 and 5 learners displayed their Unit of Inquiry work. It was a great opportunity for the parents to walk around and enjoy the beautiful work the learners had done.
MYP
The visiting parents observed demonstration classes from Grade 6-9. The courses were rich and varied, involving many subjects such as Chinese, Chinese Mathematics and English Mathematics, Chemistry, Drama, and Visual Arts. Parents enjoyed the teaching style of different teachers and experienced the advanced educational model of IB. Teachers used the inquiry-based teaching methods advocated by IB to guide students to think independently, actively explore and reflect in time, and improve the students' Communication skills, Social skills, Self-management skills, Research skills and Thinking skills.
After the classes, we prepared different forms of Parent Workshops according to the needs of parents whose children are in different grades. Parents of grades G6-8 participated in a parent workshop on MYP curriculum and IB's educational philosophy. Parents and students of G9 participated in the orientation guide for further studies. The lecture analyzed the preparations, application conditions and application time of foreign schools, and we hope the students in G9 plan ahead.
At the end of Mission day, parents filled out the satisfaction questionnaire and provided many suggestions to the school in terms of teaching and management. We sincerely hope that parents and school will work together to build a better future for the children.
HS
CBS high school had a series of wonderful celebrations.
Firstly, the students had a fierce English debate about whether students can learn only the courses they like. The atmosphere of the competition was tense and warm. The debaters on both sides were quick in thinking. The audience was full of passion and applause. In the end, Jack Lu an opposition student was a little better then other learners and was awarded "excellent debater" for the event.
Then, it is time for the foreign teachers’ cooking show time. Teachers from the United States, Britain, Croatia and other countries, each prepared a specialty dish to show the students the characteristics of home cuisine. Tuna sandwiches, English afternoon tea, chocolate chip cookies... When the students tasted the food, it gave them the opportunity to discover new cultures and flavors by eating the food.
Finally, the students also carried out a wonderful cooking competition. They cooperated with each other, showing off their cooking skills by making delicate and delicious dishes such as: Hot pot instant noodles, golden soup fat cow, pearl ball, spicy duck blood, coconut waffle, durian crisp, shrimp baked with egg yolk, dolphin bone ramen...In addition, the students also made pies and egg tarts. The learners presented the tarts to all the teachers to express their thanks.
Feedback from MYP parents
I truly appreciate the mission day organised by CBS school. It was my first time to attend such an event and it was a very unique way to see the kids and teachers in action. The teaching methodology which was not text booked focused but based on practical learning was really great It was kind of deriving participation from every single kid. They were loving it.
We did attend the Science class and the Drama class. The Drama class was equally wonderful. Even here , unique methodology was being used to prepare the kids for the life and not for the academic exams. Thanks and keep up the good work.

The open day was also aimed at creating a learning community bond between the school and the parents, which represents the learning partnership we are striving to achieve.
