On 30th September, Middle School Students’ English Speaking Competition of Changzhou took place at Changzhou Institute of Educational Science. 44 students selected from all middle schools attended the competition. Steven Xu and Joey Sun from CBS won the first prize and second prize respectively. 

This competition consists of two parts: part one, impromptu speech which requires competitors to give a 2-minute speech based on the topic given on spot with a preparation time of 40 seconds; Part two, talent show which requires competitors to present their English proficiency with a proper show. Therefore, competitors not only should have a solid English foundation, but also should grasp various knowledge and be quick minded, flexible.  

During the competition, competitors’ excellent performances deeply touched all the judges and every audience. It was students’ full preparation, English teachers’ guidance and school leaders’ support that guarantee their success. 

Participating competitions is a good way to foster teaching and learning, so both teachers and students gained precious experience.

Steven Xu: By taking part in this competition, I learned that what we give is always proportional to what we get and if we want to stand out, in addition to strength, we must get well prepared by making 100 percent efforts. I believe the valuable experience I gained from this competition will definitely become a big motivation for my future development.

Joey Sun: I improved a lot through this competition, not only in my writing skills and speaking skills but also my confidence. I really enjoyed this competition.
