On January 7, 2022, the members of the Changzhou Teachers Institute (curator: Li Na) gathered together in at CBS to hold its 20th summit conference. It was a great honor to welcome Pan Xiaofu,(the Dean of Changzhou Institute of Education and Science) Zhu Jieru, (Professor of teaching and research at Changzhou Primary School), Li Yanan, (Executive Principal of CBS) and Yan Ke, (Principal of CBS-PYP).
In the friendly conference room at CBS, members shared feedback and reflections of their experiences for the mutual benefit of all present. Principle Li Na presiding over the conference, listened inventively to the members’ deliberations, delighted by the teachers’ improvement and feedback. Members shared many different ideas for future growth and wishes for the coming year of the Tiger.
Pan Xiaofu, gave a lecture entitled "How to write excellent Teaching Plan" to the conference. Pan elaborated on teaching classes, topic selection and conception of teaching papers with his many useful examples from his vast experience. He also encourages members present to combine themes such as, “thinking with a direction”, “reading with a theme”, “practice with reflection”, and “to strive to become educators with stories”. Later, Dean Pan gave a special "blessing" to the studio, wishing everyone to build a dream, strive for life, peace, joy and success.
Teacher Gu Miaoying taught a lesson called "Fox Pretending to be a Tiger", which is a fable that children like very much. Ms. Mandy (G2B homeroom teacher) adopted a dramatic teaching method, with the children performing in the scenes of the story. She expertly let the children alternate between reading and acting to generate natural emotions and feelings. Supplemented by a variety of reading forms, to facilitate students roleplay and strengthen the understand of the text. In this way, students' understanding of the implied meanings came more naturally.
Teacher Wang Xiaojuan taught the lesson of "Grey Sparrow". Ms. May (G3B Homeroom teacher) guided the children to see things from the perspective of the birds, giving every child the freedom of choice and expression, letting them choose their own way of life. The children spoke freely and expressed their opinions in a lively debate. While learning to look at problems with dialectical thinking, children can also truly respect their opponents and others like Lenin. It truly demonstrated the open, respectful and inclusive attitude of IB learners.
After observing the two classes, principal Li Na, the tutor of the studio, organized teachers to evaluate and discuss the lessons together with expert teacher Zhu Jieru. After listening to the two teachers' teaching reflection, the teachers compared the bilingual classroom and expanded their own thinking from the aspects of teaching content and teaching form. Principal Li Na, affirmed that the teachers could be tolerant of cultural differences, and encouraged the conference to study extensively and think deeply with the help of diligent research.
Ms. Zhu fully affirmed the two teachers' lessons, were elaborately designed and task-driven. The children's carefree and relaxed appearance during the classes also made all feel deeply the values of education and teaching under different cultural backgrounds.
Ms. Yan Ke, thanked Principal Li Na for leading the conference, and then introduced the campus culture of CBS from the aspects of training objectives, curriculum theory, teaching philosophy, teaching methods.
At last, principal Li Na, gave blessings to close the conference, with encouragement and more encouragement.
I believe that under the guidance of the wisdom of Zhu Jieru, the and the warm company of principal Li Na, CBS PYP Chinese teachers will continue to grow with the wealth of knowledge and wisdom provided during this meeting.
