Good morning, Dear teachers and fellow students!

I am Steven from G8B, and this is Moon, from G9B.

Today is the eighth national memorial for victims of Nanjing Massacre. In 2014, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) set December 13th as the “National memorial for victims of Nanjing Massacre", for the first time China has paid tribute to the victims of the Massacre in the name of the state. The establishment of the day is also a better communication between China and the world, to convey to the world the attitude of the Chinese nation towards human rights and civilization, and to express to the world our determination and responsibility to love peace and maintain peace. Just as Europe commemorates the victims of Auschwitz every year, the national memorial for victims of Nanjing Massacre is a national day of public commemoration, both in China and around the world. History tells us how important it is for a country to become prosperous and strong.

The establishment of the national memorial for victims of Nanjing Massacre is the inheritance of the national and the patriotic spirit. The national memorial has brought the war closer and relived the suffering of the nation; The national memorial, not to promote revenge and resentment, is to arouse the wish for peace. Today, Chinese people will gather to remember the dead with a heavy heart, but it is known that this is not an advocate of national revenge, but a reminder for everyone to avoid a repetition of the tragedy of the history.

Since ancient times, peace has been the best wish of mankind. Peace is as warm as sunshine and as moist as rain. With sunshine and rain, everything can thrive. With peace and stability, mankind can better realize its dreams. History therefore tells us that peace needs to be fought for and that peace needs to be preserved. Peace is only expected if everyone cherishes it and upholds it, and everyone remembers the bitter lessons of war.

We, as members of the Chinese citizens, may not yet have the ability to safeguard national security and maintain social peace, but I believe what we can do is live in harmony with classmates and develop friendships. The IB Learner Profiles also focus on caring, which expects us to show respect and empathy for people and things in the community. In CBS, we sincerely hope that students not only learn academic knowledge and skills, but also learn to be a good person, distinguish right from wrong and have a sense of justice.

That’s all for today, Thank you!
